A pavement renewal project will close a section of the Sunrise Highway south service road in the Town of Islip overnight weeknights for about five weeks, the New York State Department of Transportation announced on Friday. The closures are scheduled to begin Tuesday.

The work will force the closure between Montauk Highway bypass exit and Nicolls Road, County Route 97. Those closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting.

The NYSDOT said motorists could use the main line of Sunrise Highway through the area, or follow detour routes onto Montauk Highway.

In addition, the NYDOT said the westbound Sunrise Highway at Exit 40 (State Route 231/Babylon-Northport Expressway) in the Town of Babylon would be closed for five nights, beginning April 20, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for maintenance to the State Route 231 bridge over the Sunrise Highway. The westbound lanes also will closed May 1 to May 4 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Motorists will be detoured onto the North Service Road for approximately one mile to reenter Sunrise Highway.

Electronic message signs will provide updated and additional information, the NYSDOT said.

For additional information, drivers can call 511 or visit www.511NY.org. Information also is available by following the NYSDOT on Facebook, X or Instagram, as well as on the NYSDOT website. Motorists can also download the free 511NY mobile app for up to date information on closures.
