An early morning crash left two injured, one seriously, and forced the closure of all westbound lanes of Route 347, Veterans Memorial Highway, in Hauppauge on Thursday, Suffolk police said.

A second crash in the area less than two hours later resulted in two minor injuries.

A search of traffic cameras on the New York State Department of Transportation 511NY website showed the road had been reopened by late morning.

Police said the first crash was reported in a 911 call at 6:16 a.m.

That scene was almost directly in front of the H. Lee Denison Building, the site of most major Suffolk agencies including the county legislature, Veterans Service Agency, Youth Bureau, Human Rights Commission, Women's Services and the office of County Executive Edward P. Romaine.

The second crash scene was closer to the entrance to Blydenburgh Park.

That crash was reported in a 911 call at 8:01 a.m., police said.

Police, citing the ongoing investigation, said details on both crashes were still emerging.

Earlier, 511NY traffic cameras showed westbound traffic in the area slowed to a crawl.

The road is a major connector to Routes 454, 111 and 25 and the Long Island Expressway and its service roads — and serves as a major daily travel conduit, with heavy traffic especially during the morning and evening rush-hour commutes.
