A Queens man fishing off Town Beach in Southold drowned while trying to retrieve his belongings from his boat after it sank, the police said Sunday.

Luis Alciviades Encalada Ojeda, 48, of Corona, Queens, went fishing with two other men Saturday morning, when their boat began taking on water, according to the Town of Southold Police Department.

The men went into the water to get their gear, during which time Ojeda drowned.

Southold police officers responded to a call shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday and found Ojeda on the beach. The two other men were not injured, the police said.

Emergency medical responders declared Ojeda dead at the scene.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner is assisting with the investigation
