Albert Jose Rosario Duran, 19, arrested after evading cops in crash of motorized scooter in Copiague, police say

A Copiague teenager was arrested and seriously injured after crashing his motorized scooter while running from police on Friday, according to a news release from the Suffolk County Police Department.
Albert Jose Rosario Duran, 19, was riding a 2025 Racestar scooter on Great Neck Road around noon when police attempted to pull him over. He rode off in an attempt to evade officers, but crashed near the Rose Street intersection less than 10 minutes into the chase, police said.
A police spokesman could not immediately provide information about what prompted the initial stop.
Rosario Duran first collided with a 2012 Ford Escape and then hit a telephone pole on the west side of Great Neck Road. The 19-year-old was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in Islip with "serious but non-life-threatening injuries," police said.
The Ford Escape was driven by a Copiague resident who was not injured in the crash.
Rosario Duran faces charges for running from the police in a motor vehicle, as well as multiple traffic violations ranging from reckless driving to operating a vehicle without a license.
The teenager is due to appear in Central Islip’s First District Court at "a later date," according to the news release, which did not specify an appearance date.
