Northport woman, 87, dead after drowning in pool

A Northport woman died after she was found unresponsive in her pool Wednesday morning.
Suffolk County police officers responded to a home on Devon Place about 7:55 a.m., the department said in a news release.
The woman, Eileen Specht, 87, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police.
Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the incident, which the department described as a "drowning death" in the release. Detectives do not suspect criminality.
Specht's drowning is at least the sixth in Suffolk this summer. Her drowning follows those of a 2-year-old girl in Mastic Beach, a 3-year-old boy in Central Islip, a 73-year-old woman in Huntington, a 75-year-old retired NYPD chief in Stony Brook and a 63-year-old man in Islip Terrace.
