Aaron Gonzalez charged in Sayville stabbing that seriously injured another man

A Sayville man was arrested and charged with assault after he allegedly stabbed another man in a restaurant early Friday morning, Suffolk police said.

About 1:10 a.m., Aaron Gonzalez, 23, "got into a dispute" that "turned physical" with another man, 19, at the eatery located at 60 South Main St. in Sayville, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release.

The victim was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of injuries considered serious but not life-threatening.

Gonzalez was "transported in a private vehicle with minor injuries to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue," police said.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the release said. Police will hold him overnight at the Sixth Precinct in Selden ahead of his arraignment Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The address Suffolk police released matches the one listed for Metros on Main, a restaurant and bar that serves American and Italian eats. When reached by telephone Friday afternoon, a representative of Metros on Main said staff would not be commenting on the incident and that the owner was not immediately available.
