Southold crash involving party bus, pickup sends 6 to hospital with minor injuries

Six people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after a pickup truck collided with a Mercedes party bus in Southold Saturday.
An 89-year-old Southold woman was driving a Toyota Tacoma west on County Route 48 when she attempted to make a left on Youngs Avenue and struck an eastbound Mercedes Sprinter van carrying seven passengers, according to Southold Police Chief Steven Grattan. According to an accident report, the woman "failed to yieled the right of way" and struck the van, driven by a 58-year-old Uniondale man.
The crash was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Southold, Greenport and Cutchogue fire departments responded to the scene, officials said.

Four passengers and both drivers were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, the chief said. Three passengers declined medical attention at the scene.
No charges were filed, according to police.
