A Brentwood man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Tuesday, Suffolk police said.

Daniel Gomez, 65, was arrested at his home and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality, police said. He was to be held overnight at the Third Precinct and arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The pedestrian was crossing westbound Sunrise Highway at North Indiana Avenue at 4:25 a.m. when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Accord, police said. Gomez fled in his vehicle, police said.

The victim was a 56-year-old homeless man who was not identified pending notification of next of kin. He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
