A group of people clamming discovered a dead body Friday evening in Three Mile Harbor in Springs, according to East Hampton Town police.

Police on Saturday afternoon identified the man as 62-year-old Edward J. Garbowski, of East Hampton. Officials said he may have suffered a medical emergency that led to his death.

Police were notified at 7:36 p.m. to the report that an unresponsive man had been found on an "exposed grass island" in the water off Folkstone Road.  Garbowski was found with equipment for harvesting shellfish, police said.

An investigation is underway to determine a cause of death. Detectives have not found evidence indicating any suspicious circumstances or foul play, police said.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene and is also investigating the cause of death.

Anyone with information can contact East Hampton police at 631-537-7575.
