Parts of Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway will be closed starting next week, impacting drivers in the towns of Hempstead, Babylon and Brookhaven, according to news releases from the New York State Department of Transportation.

On Sunrise Highway, the closure will impact two eastbound lanes between the Wantagh State Parkway in Hempstead, and County Line Road in Babylon.

That segment of roadway will be shut down starting on Sunday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. It will be closed every day, except for Friday and Saturday nights, for about the next four weeks.

The closure is meant to "facilitate a pavement renewal project," according to NYSDOT, which did not include information about a detour route in its announcement.

Further east, the LIE will be partly closed at Exit 62 in Brookhaven. The shutdown will impact the westbound lanes at the expressway’s interchange with Nicolls Road and County Route 97.

The LIE closure will begin on Tuesday at 10 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. Wednesday. The roadway will close again during the same hours on Thursday night into Friday morning.

Drivers who need to take that route will be redirected onto North Service Road.

The closure is meant to "facilitate highway and bridge maintenance," according to NYSDOT’s announcement.

The agency added that weather could change the construction timelines for work on both the LIE and Sunrise Highway.
