Kennedy Airport travelers won't be able to take the AirTrain to or from the terminals for several overnights this week due to system upgrades, the Port Authority announced.
The suspensions will take place Tuesday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
In a travel advisory, the Port Authority said service will be suspended but shuttle bus service will be provided between all AirTrain stations and terminals. Travelers should plan on facing additional travel time, the Port Authority said.
The suspensions are due to routine maintenance and system upgrades, the Port Authority told Newsday. The outages will take place this week and next and the Port Authority said it will provide advance notice of any additional service outages.
Customer service agents will be available to assist travelers at all stations.
Due to ongoing construction as part of the $19 billion redevelopment of Kennedy Airport, authorities are also advising anyone using for-hire vehicle services to plan for delays and rerouted trips due to detours and closures to the airport road network.
Due to new roadway configurations at Kennedy, travelers are advised to use the Van Wyck Expressway for direct access to terminals 1 and 4 and to use the JFK Expressway for direct access to terminals 5, 7 and 8.
The Port Authority also is encouraging the use of public transit to and from LaGuardia Airport, with LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service offering fare-free service year-round.
