A Nesconset man was charged with driving while intoxicated on Friday after his vehicle struck another car at a Dix Hills intersection and seriously injured a 21-year-old man, Suffolk County police said.
Around 2:20 a.m., Wesley Sitar, 45, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram on East Jericho Turnpike in the eastbound lanes when the vehicle struck a westbound 2010 Volkswagen that was attempting to turn left on East Deer Park Road.
Commack firefighters and Suffolk County Police Emergency Service officers used extrication tools to remove the driver's-side doors and roof of the Volkswagen to rescue the driver.
The Volkswagen driver, an Oakdale resident, was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Sitar was also taken to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
