A Smithtown man was ejected and killed in a crash Sunday night that split his car in half on the Northern State Parkway, state police said.

Salvatore Sparacino IV, 29, crashed a 2010 Volkswagen EOS near the New Highway overpass in Smithtown about 8:30 p.m., police said.

Sparacino's was the only vehicle involved in the crash and the only person in his car. State police criminal investigators said he was speeding and driving erratically when he drove off the road.

Police did not give further details about the crash.
