A Westbury man was charged with felony assault and driving while intoxicated after his car collided with another vehicle early Sunday on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, causing a passenger in the other vehicle to be ejected, state police said.
Deondre L. Clark, 35, was driving north on the parkway "at an unsafe speed" when he hit a 2015 Honda Pilot shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, state police said in a news release.
The injured passenger who was thrown from the Honda was taken to a hospital with serious injuries; the driver of the Honda and two other passengers were not seriously hurt, state police said.
Clark was charged with DWI, felony assault and reckless driving, according to Brittany Burton, a spokeswoman for the state police. An attorney for Clark could not immediately be reached.
The northbound lanes of the Meadowbrook State Parkway were closed overnight for several hours between the Southern State Parkway and Hempstead Turnpike in the Town of Hempstead following the crash and police investigation. The parkway reopened about 8 a.m.
