Worker killed when truck backs over him in Hicksville facility

A worker was killed when a truck ran over him at a Hicksville trucking business Monday.

Hicksville Fire Department Dispatcher Chris Mercadante said the fatal incident happened at Gabrielli Truck Sales and Service, at 880 S Oyster Bay Rd in Hicksville, around 3 p.m.

“There was a worker there and the truck backed over him and killed him," Mercadante said. “He apparently was working on the truck or something and it ran over him."

He said he didn’t know the identify of the deceased or details of what happened.

Police said they did respond to a call for help at that address but were still investigating and had no further details.

“When we got there the police department said the patient is dead at the scene," Mercadante said. “They have to do a crime scene investigation and everything."

He said the Hicksville Fire Department sent a paramedic and ambulance and the police department sent an ambulance, a medic supervisor and emergency services.
