Valley Stream house fire injures occupant, firefighter

A Valley Stream house fire broke out Friday night, injuring one resident and one of the responding firefighters, authorities said.
A two-story home on E. St. Mark Place caught fire shortly before 8 p.m., fire officials said.
The Valley Stream Fire Department, with the help of Elmont, Franklin Square, Woodmere, Hewlett, West Hempstead, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre and Inwood departments, were able to control the blaze in about 40 minutes, according to a news release. About 100 firefighters responded to the scene.
One of the residents was taken to a nearby hospital for fire-related injuries, fire officials said. A firefighter was also hurt, but refused medical attention.
The blaze caused enough damage to prevent the remaining residents from returning to the home, according to the news release.
Nassau County Fire Marshal Investigators and the Nassau County Police Department Arson Bomb Squad are looking into the cause of the fire.
