Man falls to his death during Goose concert at Madison Square Garden

A 51-year-old man fell to his death during a Goose concert at Madison Square Garden Saturday night, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the New York City Police Department received a 911 call. Officers arriving on the scene found a man "unconscious and unresponsive," an NYPD spokesperson told Newsday, with injuries consistent with a fall "from an elevated position."

Police would not explain what that elevated position was.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD spokesperson said the department is investigating but "no criminality is suspected at this time."

Various social media posts from the scene reported that the man fell from an upper level deck of Madison Square Garden into the lower section.

The Connecticut-based jam band continued to play, apparently unaware of the tragedy. The four-man group was playing its second of two weekend performances at Madison Square Garden, part of its summer tour.

"We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight’s show. We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected," a statement posted on the band's Instagram account read. "Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."

A spokesperson from MSG Entertainment said in a statement, "While we await the police report on the tragedy at last night's Goose concert, we are deeply saddened by the loss of a fan's life at Madison Square Garden. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the concertgoer."
