George Washington Bridge's westbound lanes reopened after debris fell to roadway

All New Jersey-bound lanes of the George Washington Bridge's lower level have reopened after falling debris damaged a section of the Cross Bronx Expressway.
The Port Authority announced at 4:10 a.m. Thursday on X that the lower roadway to the bridge was reopened and that earlier roadwork has been cleared.
The debris, which fell to the expressway sometime early Wednesday, forced the closure of all westbound lanes on the lower deck of the bridge amid the morning commute as crews made repairs, according to the Port Authority.
The NYSDOT along with the Port Authority, which owns and operates the bridge, said maintenance crews responded to reports of falling debris about 8:30 a.m.
The state's 511NY website said the area in question is located between the westbound ramp from Exit 1B, the Harlem River Drive/Amsterdam Avenue, to the Lower Trans-Manhattan Expressway.
In a statement Wednesday afternoon, the Port Authority said: "We are continuing to thoroughly investigate an incident from earlier this morning of debris falling from the ceiling over a westbound lane from the Cross-Bronx expressway leading to the lower level of the GWB."
