A history of incidents involving LaGuardia Airport, where, according to the Port Authority, an Air Canada regional plane crashed into a firefighting vehicle late Sunday, killing two pilots:
May 29, 1947
Forty-three people died when a Cleveland-bound DC-4 crashed and burned before takeoff at what was then called LaGuardia Field. United Airlines blamed the crash on a wind gust “of almost unbelievable suddenness.”
Feb. 1, 1957
A Miami-bound airliner crashed onto Rikers Island moments after taking off from LaGuardia in a snowstorm, killing 22 people. Seventy-four others on board survived.
Dec. 16, 1960
LaGuardia-bound TWA Flight 266 from Dayton, Ohio, collided in a heavy snowstorm over Staten Island with United Flight 825 from Chicago, bound for Idlewild (now Kennedy) Airport. All 128 people on board the two aircraft died, as did six people on the ground.

Two people were killed when USAir Flight 5050 bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, slid off the end of the runway into the East River during takeoff from LaGuardia.
March 22, 1992
Twenty-seven people were killed and 24 injured when USAir Flight 405 ran off a LaGuardia runway into Flushing Bay while attempting takeoff in a snowstorm. The crash of the Cleveland-bound plane was blamed on ice buildup on the wings.
March 1994
Continental Airlines Flight 795 aborted takeoff during a snowstorm when its rear wheels caught on an embankment, causing the jet to skid off the runway and come to a stop just short of Flushing Bay. Minor injuries were reported.
Jan. 15, 2009
All passengers and crew survived after US Airways flight 1549 hit a flock of birds 90 seconds after takeoff from LaGuardia, and the plane, piloted by Capt. Chesley Sullenberger, made an emergency landing in the Hudson River.
March 5, 2015
Delta Flight 1086, carrying 127 passengers and five crew, skidded off Runway 13 at LaGuardia while landing in a snowstorm, striking a perimeter fence and injuring 23 passengers.
Oct. 27, 2017
Eastern Airlines flight 3452, carrying Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, skidded on a runway, slamming into protective barriers at the runway’s end, landing in a grassy area.
Oct. 1, 2025
Two flights operated by a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines were involved in a "low-speed collision" on a taxiway at LaGuardia. Both planes were damaged and a flight attendant was injured, officials said.
Oct. 31, 2025
Two United Airlines planes carrying a total of 343 people collided on the ground at LaGuardia. No injuries were reported.
