A cold front making its way across Long Island could bring scattered thunderstorms, coastal flooding and rip currents to South Shore beaches on Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for southern Nassau County and warned beachgoers about rip currents Sunday afternoon at Atlantic Beach, Long Beach, Lido Beach and Jones Beach.

"If you're going to go to the beach on a day like today ... we want to remind everyone to pay attention to lifeguards and their instructions, and keep in mind that with the high rip current risk, no matter how strong a swimmer you are, that water is still dangerous," said Faye Morrone, a meteorologist with the NWS.

Any possible flooding is expected to be minor and timed to high tide Sunday evening. Thunderstorms and winds moving faster than 58 miles per hour could damage trees and power lines, according to the NWS.

The week ahead is expected to bring more seasonable temperatures, with Monday's highs in the low 80s and Tuesday's in the upper 70s, Morrone said.
