4,000 PSEG customers remain without power Monday; downed trees, poles still an issue

Thousands of Long Islanders continued to be without power Monday afternoon in the aftermath of the weekend’s nor’easter. 

Just after 1 p.m. on Monday, PSEG Long Island reported 481 outages affecting about 4,000 customers, compared to 774 reported outages as of Sunday night.

Outages remain scattered across Long Island, with the hardest hit areas in Suffolk County, PSEG said. 

"Over the course of 72 hours, the storm caused more than 124,000 outages," an update from PSEG said on Monday morning. 

More than 1,350 employees have fanned out across Long Island during the nor'easter and were working 16-hour shifts until all outages are restored, the utility said.

As of 9 p.m. Sunday, PSEG Long Island said it had restored power to nearly 112,000 customers affected by the storm since 7 a.m. Friday.

National Weather Service meteorologist Bryan Ramsey said rain will linger through the area and begin to clear out by 10 p.m.

Two coastal flood advisories were in effect Monday through the afternoon's high tide: for southern Nassau and southwest Suffolk from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.; and for eastern Suffolk from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
