Hurricane Isaias is forecast to make landfall on Saturday in Florida as a Category 2 storm, but only its remnants will bring rain to Long Island for yet another rainy Sunday, forecasters said.

Late Sunday afternoon into early Monday, the "remnants of the storm" will bring roughly ¾ of an inch to an inch and a half of rain to the Island, Newsday metrologist Geoff Bansen said. Flooding is not expected, expect perhaps in areas with bad drainage.

"We're not seeing hurricane conditions up here," Bansen said. "It's going to be plain rain, maybe a little bit of a breeze, but nothing remotely close to what can be expected in a hurricane."

The holiday weekend will mark the fifth consecutive Sunday with rainfall, National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Radell said.

Long Island may cool off a few degrees on Friday, with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s during the day and lows in the upper 50s at night.

"Pretty normal for this time of the year here as we approach mid-October," Radell said.

The National Hurricane Center declared Isaias a Category 1 hurricane around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The storm was upgraded to Category 2 at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Isaias is the first hurricane of the season.
