Long Island can expect slightly above average temperatures on the first day of spring — but don’t expect to wear your flip-flops just yet.
Friday will reach a high of near 50 degrees — a few digits above the average temperature of 48, the National Weather Service said.
Conditions will be mostly sunny before a slight chance of rain on Friday night.
Temperatures will remain in the lower 50s the remainder of the weekend, meteorologist Bill Goodman said.
While a slight chance of snow had been forecast for Sunday morning, Goodman said the service no longer expects any flakes. If anything, snow will fall offshore.
"Even if that were going to happen ... that's going to be inland . . . not affecting Long Island,” he said.
The chance of rain returns Sunday night and lasts through Monday morning, while temperatures will drop into the upper 40s.
The beginning of next week will be closer to average temperatures in the lower to mid-40s, Goodman said.
“No big warmups in sight anytime soon,” he added.
