Tuesday night is forecast to be the coldest night of the season for Long Island, with expected temperatures dropping as low as the upper 30s, while parts of New England are under a frost advisory.

NewsdayTV meteorologist Geoff Bansen said most of Long Island will see lows in the middle 40s, while areas near the water will be in the lower 50s.

Forecasters said areas near the Pine Barrens will see the coldest temperatures.

“Rocky Point and Coram over to Riverhead, those areas will get down into the 30s,” National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Goodman said. Bridgehampton is forecast also to drop to 39 degrees.

While temperatures may be chilly, there is no risk of frost for Long Island, Bansen said.

The Hudson Valley, most of Connecticut and parts of Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine, are under a frost advisory on Wednesday morning.

Long Island typically doesn't sees its first frost until late October at earliest, Bansen added.

The colder conditions will follow a chilly Tuesday morning, as many Long Islanders woke up to temperatures in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

But don’t get out your winter clothes just yet.

Temperatures will rise back into the mid 60s to lower 70s on Wednesday and will stay that way into the weekend.

“This cool shot that we’re having is fairly short-lived,” Goodman said.

Lows will drop into the 50s beginning Wednesday night — not as cold as Tuesday, but enough to bring a sweater if venturing outside.

“Once the sun goes down, it cools up pretty quick,” Goodman said.

A chance of showers will return Sunday night into Monday.

Forecasters said they are keeping an eye on a weather disturbance in the Gulf Coast. Goodman said while it is too soon to confirm if will turn into a tropical storm or hurricane, it should not greatly affect Long Island in either case.

“It’s way too early to know,” he said.
