The 13th District includes Salisbury, East Meadow and parts of Levittown.
Thomas McKevitt, 55, of East Meadow, an attorney, was first elected to the Nassau County Legislature in 2017, having previously served in the Assembly. As deputy presiding officer, the Republican is well-briefed on county and district issues from infrastructure to housing development to veterans help. He is a strong supporter of renewable energy programs for local businesses.
Democrat Christina M. Lemyre, 37, of Levittown, shows a good familiarity with the district and what people need. She is a member of Insulators Local 12, a building-trades union, and an energetic believer that listening to each other will foster change. She wants to expand employment training opportunities for young adults. Lemyre shows promise but McKevitt has a wealth of experience.
Newsday Opinion endorses McKevitt.
