Musings: Revive an era of good feelings

Every year in Canada, the third week in February is celebrated as National Kindness Week — an initiative officially launched four years ago and inspired by “Canada’s rabbi,” the renowned Rabbi Reuven Bulka.
Now, guess what? It seems to have filtered down to Nassau County. I am physically disabled and have had wonderful experiences of kindness shown to me.
In supermarkets, strangers have reached up to shelves for items that I couldn’t get to.
Teenagers have put my groceries into my car.
Young children have opened doors for me.
Neighbors have plowed snow from my sidewalk and driveway.
People wave as I drive by.
My newspaper is left on my doorstep to make it easier for me to reach.
It would be wonderful if these acts of kindness could be shown by the politicians in Washington. It could dissolve all the animosity created by political division and return an “Era of Good Feelings” for all.
