Some of us are Republicans, some are Democrats, and some vote as independents. We are men and women, old and young. We observe many faiths. Our citizens are native or naturalized, and we come in every size, shape and color.
We are a nation of differences founded on two commonalities: a subscription to a set of principles and an adherence to the rule of law. We are Americans, who for the past 250 years have been an inspiration to the world, a forum for the betterment of humankind, and a sanctuary for the oppressed.
It's time for us to revisit our history and remember who we were, because that is not who we have become. Let's unite and make America America again, not the land of us and them.
Ed Weinert, Melville
