One of the greatest joys in my life was not on Mother's Day. It was each time I became a mother.

I was young when my first child, a daughter, was born. Another daughter and a son followed. After a brief spell, a third daughter came, giving me four joys to treasure.

While raising my four children, time played a trick on me. It made the years fly by. Imagine my surprise when one daughter married and gave birth to a daughter of her own. It added another joy to my life, a grandchild to love and help raise. After my other children wed, the number of grandchildren grew to seven, totaling 11 joys.

Imagine my surprise again when my first granddaughter had a son, making my daughter a grandmother! I wanted to grab that trickster, time, and wring its neck. Life was traveling at super speed. Too fast for me to accept. On Mother's Day, I count the joys I've accumulated, adding up to 12. I wear a smile of gratitude for my bouquet of joys.
