Designers North opens 2nd store in Farmingdale inside Seigerman's Furniture

Designers North, which has long sold flooring largely to designers and trade professionals out of its Albertson storefront, has opened a new Farmingdale showroom inside a design center.
The store opened in May inside Seigerman’s Furniture & Interior Design Center, off the Route 110 corridor long known as an interior design destination.
Customers can now shop flooring, furniture and other home-design services in one place, at a time when many independent carpet stores have closed. Montauk Carpet, also on Route 110, closed in 2024 after five decades in Farmingdale, Newsday reported.
“Montauk Carpet was there forever, and this was a great opportunity for people that don’t want to shop at a million different places to come to one spot and do all their shopping for their home,” Designers North owner Michael Hendel said.
Nancy Rothbeind, who came to work for Designers North after 40 years selling for Montauk Rug & Carpet, was initially skeptical of the concept of a carpet store inside a furniture store. But many other carpet stores have closed, she said, leaving customers with fewer options.
Seigerman's also hosts Homestead Window Treatments and Brooklyn Tile and Design, said Art Eisenberg, who owns the 50,000-square-foot design showroom.
“We looked for quality vendors that are well-known in the interior design space that would be a good fit," Eisenberg said.
Seigerman's is open to designers and to the public, he added.
“You don’t need your designer to walk in there, and you’re still going to have the same kind of experience that you get with me in Albertson,” said Nicole Koenig, a salesperson at Designers North.
Designers North, established in the 1980s by Harvey Fried, was geared toward architects, designers and builders, Koenig said.
The company is now owned by Hendel and Brian Trucchio.
The business sells wall-to-wall carpet, area rugs, runners, vinyl and wood flooring. Prices at the Farmingdale location range from $25 a square yard installed to over $200 a square yard, Hendel said.
Samples in the Farmingdale showroom span the spectrum of textures and prints. Soft and scratchy; low- and high-piled; velvety and bathmat-like. Leopard print and gradient; solid and spotted.
Though carpet and flooring are available online through various retailers, Koenig said there is still a need for a physical location.
“A lot of it’s gone online, but, the reality is it’s a very tactile business,” Koenig said. “People want to feel it, they want samples.”
