A library ladder affixed to a bookcase made of dark wood rolls along a segment of wall at a ranch-style house in Massapequa.

The floor-to-ceiling bookcase "gives the house a lot of character," said listing agent Katherine Ciavarella, who has co-listed the home with Silvia Jungen for Signature Premier Properties.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom Suffolk Road home is on the market for $895,000. Taxes on the 0.23-acre property, which falls within the Massapequa School District, total $14,560.

Built in 1956, according to Nassau County land records, the house measures 1,958 square feet. In recent years, Ciavarella and Jungen said, the current owners have updated the mechanical systems, refreshed the paint and replaced windows.

The home has central air conditioning and hot air and hot water heating systems, according to the listing.

"Sylvia always says, '8 seconds, people walk into the house, they know if they like it,' " Ciavarella said. "This, you don't even have to walk into the house, and you immediately know that this is something special."

Outside, a covered front patio offers space the owners have used as a sitting and dining area, the agents said.

"As you're walking in, you're already part of the living space because you have that outdoor patio," Jungen said.

Feet away, the doors of a two-car garage are made of one-way glass: an insider can see through them, an outsider cannot.

Jungen said prospective buyers have told her being at the house made them feel like they were on vacation. There are high ceilings, abundant natural light and a wood-burning fireplace in an open-concept living space, the agents noted.

The primary bedroom has a bathroom with a double sink and sliding doors that lead to the yard, Ciavarella added. The property has a back and side yard, as well as two sheds.

An area currently used as a mudroom — which includes a laundry area and adjacent sink — has a wall of windows that frame a view of a side patio.

"You want a staycation there," Ciavarella said.
