Tauk at Trail's End, the storied Montauk restaurant whose history dates back to 1927, is on the market for $4.2 million.

The listing includes the 1,800-square-foot restaurant on a 0.29-acre lot, with a six-bedroom, two-bathroom home, which can be used to house employees, said owner Michael Nasti.

Taxes on the S. Euclid Avenue property are $8,132 total, and the listing agent is Erica Smitheman, of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

Nasti purchased the restaurant in 2015, opening it up a year later with a menu that included more seafood than ever before, he said.

"In 1927, [Montauk] was a fishing village," he said. "And every single person in town had all the fish they could ever want, and didn't have money in their pocket to do anything else."

So for a long time, the eatery focused on comfort foods, such as turkey and pot roast, Nasti said. When he took ownership, the restaurant introduced lobster, black sea bass, flounder and more. Nasti is the restaurant's third owner in 99 years.

"I'm in my mid-60s, and I'm looking to kind of slow things down a little bit," he said, of his decision to sell.

Trail's End originally stood closer to Fort Pond Bay, and was uprooted by the Hurricane of 1938, which devastated the East End. The restaurant was relocated to its current home after that.

The eatery includes a front deck, outdoor patio, an equipped kitchen, 20-car parking lot and a full basement with two walk-in refrigerators. Everything inside of the establishment, such as the seating and tables, are included in the sale, Nasti said.

Updates were just completed on the siding, windows and doorways, he added.

The listing also includes a six-bedroom, two-bathroom house.

The house is behind the restaurant and can accommodate 12 people, Nasti said. There are bunk beds in some of the rooms, which will also be given to the new owner.

Nasti wanted to highlight the restaurant's history by honoring what was already there, and adding new yet authentic details. For example, Nasti installed a bar top made of 100-year-old wood.

"That is just natural wood, and it's so dense and hard from 100 years of drying that it doesn't absorb anything; we don't treat it with anything," he said.

Nasti hopes the next owner will retain the old-school, beachy charm that has made Tauk at Trail's End a Montauk mainstay. Looking back, his favorite memories center around the people who filled his restaurant for the past 10 years.

"The best thing is the people," he said. "From the people who have worked there, to the people who are guests … It creates a very homey feeling; that's the one part that keeps rattling around in my head."
