Yankees' Paul Blackburn gives up walk-off two-run homer by Padres' Luis Campusano in 10th

SAN DIEGO — Luis Campusano hit a walk-off two-run homer with one out in the 10th inning to give the San Diego Padres a 3-2 victory over the Yankees on Friday night.

The Yankees dropped four games behind AL East-leading Tampa Bay, which held on to beat the Texas Rangers, 7-6. 

After Spencer Jones led off the top of the 10th with an RBI single off Mason Miller to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead, Campusano homered to leftfield off Paul Blackburn (7-3).

Jones, who played for La Costa Canyon High in northern San Diego County, was playing for the first time as a big-leaguer at Petco Park. After going 0-for-3, he singled to center off Miller (5-2) to drive in ghost runner Luis Garcia Jr. for a 2-1 lead.

Jones advanced to second on the throw home but was thrown out trying to steal third as Heliot Ramos struck out.

The Yankees struck out 15 times, including seven against Adrian Morejon, who pitched the eighth, and Miller, who pitched the ninth and 10th.

The Padres got a baserunner to third with two outs in the ninth before David Bednar struck out Austin Hays.

Ben Rice hit a 444-foot home run to the base of the batter’s eye in straightaway centerfield off Walker Buehler with two outs in the third to tie the score at 1. It was the 36th homer and 88th RBI for Rice, who had three of the Yankees’ five hits.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second when Ty France led off with a double against Max Fried, advanced on Jackson Merrill’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Xander Bogaerts’ two-out bloop single that dropped in front of Trent Grisham, who later left the game with a hamstring issue.
