Cruz Davis, the CAA Player of the Year and leading scorer for the Hofstra men’s basketball team that reached the NCAA Tournament last month, has decided to enter the transfer portal, sources confirmed to Newsday.

Davis is the second premier player for the Pride to enter the portal. The CAA’s Rookie of the Year Preston Edmead, from Deer Park, did so last week. The portal closes on April 21.

Entering the portal does not mean either or both of the players cannot return to Hofstra for next season, but it allows them to explore options from other programs that could be able to pay more NIL (name, image and likeness) money and provide greater exposure.

Davis, a native of Plano, Texas, averaged team highs of 20.1 points and 4.7 assists per game for Hofstra and shot 40% from three-point range last season. He appeared in all 35 of Hofstra’s games and his 37.9 minutes per game were the third most in the nation. He had 14 points and six assists in the Pride's 90-70 loss to Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He has one year of eligibility remaining after having already spent time at Iona and St. John’s before his two seasons at Hofstra.
