The Jets locked up a big piece of their offensive line.
Guard Joe Tippmann signed a four-year, $62 million contract extension with the Jets on Monday.
Tippmann is the second player the Jets have extended this offseason. They also signed running back Breece Hall to a three-year, $45.75 million extension last month after placing the franchise tag on him.
General manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn have been proactive in keeping young, talented players that they deem building blocks in a Jets' uniform. They got the deal done with Hall long before the deadline and signed receiver Garrett Wilson to a four-year extension last offseason before training camp started.
Tippmann, 25, has been a rock on the offensive line since the Jets drafted him in the second round in 2023 out of Wisconsin. He’s started 44 consecutive games at center and guard.
A center in college, Tippmann has shown his versatility and selflessness by sliding over to right guard when the Jets needed him.
Tippmann won the starting center job over Josh Myers last year, but after Alijah Vera-Tucker tore his triceps the Jets turned to Tippmann to fill the spot. Myers became the starting center. Tippmann performed well at his new position for what was an underrated offensive line.
The Jets have a solid young nucleus on the line that has been mostly built through the draft. They selected left tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round in 2024 and right tackle Armand Membou in the first round last year.
