1. St. Anthony’s
St. Anthony’s (3-2) followed up its win over Chaminade last week with a huge overtime win courtesy of Jake Johnston’s golden goal over Inside Lacrosse’s top-ranked team in the country, Episcopal Academy. Saturday’s loss to Delbarton sets up a bounce-back opportunity against Boston College High School Monday.
2. Chaminade
The Flyers’ losses to St. Anthony’s and Don Bosco saw them drop a few spots in national rankings. Hayden Sipress’s five goals helped Chaminade (5-3) bounce back with a 14-11 win over Salesianum Saturday ahead of the Flyers’ home game against St. Ignatius.
3. Garden City
Wins over teams like Wantagh and Cold Spring Harbor show why the Trojans belong, buoyed by James DeBuschere’s eight combined goals and Brayden Robertiello’s combined 29-for-33 on faceoffs. The Trojans (5-0) added an impressive win in Middletown against Jamesville-DeWitt Saturday. A massive road matchup with Massapequa awaits on April 15.
4. Massapequa
All gas, no brakes for Massapequa (4-0), which has outscored its four opponents, 69-29. Nolan Wieczorek and Rocco Spallina have combined for 53 points already.
5. Manhasset
Kicking off the year with a win over powerhouse Mamaroneck was great. Following it up with a 16-3 win over South Side, an 8-5 win over Farmingdale and a 14-3 win over Shoreham-Wading River is proof enough Manhasset (5-0) belongs with the best of the best. Watch out for Manhasset’s road trip against a top-25 opponent in Connecticut’s Darien on April 11.
6. Northport
A one-goal loss to Springfield, a borderline top-25 team in the country, might dampen the mood. It shouldn’t. The Tigers (2-1) remain the standard in Suffolk, ending the week with a 13-2 win Saturday over Sachem East.
7. Port Washington
It’s business as usual in Port Washington (5-0), which has won all five of its games by at least three goals. Harry Eynon has scored four goals in every game, while goalie Max Eynon and Port Washington’s defense have yet to allow more than six goals in a single game.
8. Wantagh
Wantagh (4-2) suffered losses to state-championship-caliber teams in Garden City and Massapequa. A bounce-back win, 22-14, against Comsewogue Saturday sets up a tough test with Sachem North on April 9.
9. Sachem North
The first newcomer to Newsday’s Power Rankings arrives after a 10-9 win over Syosset. Wins over South Fork and Middle Country add shine to Sachem North (4-0), which has outscored its opponents, 52-23.
10. Farmingdale
Farmingdale (4-1) rebounded from its tight loss to Manhasset with a 7-5 win Saturday over a talented West Islip squad. Dominic Martillotti had 18 saves in the win.
