The hole was three goals deep for Lindenhurst with just 4:40 gone. No problem. The Bulldogs had it tied with Connetquot in 74 seconds.

The hole was three goals deep again by early in the second quarter. No problem. Soon tied.

The hole was two goals deep with 4:20 left in regulation. Again, no problem for Suffolk’s most prolific goal-scoring team in boys lacrosse.

Lindenhurst had tied again in 63 seconds. Then the most prolific goal scorer in program history won it in OT. Senior attackman Joe Scavone IV scored his lone goal with 3:06 remaining in the extra session, giving the Bulldogs a 13-12 Suffolk Division I victory Wednesday at Lindenhurst Middle School.

“If there’s time on the clock, we have a chance,” Lindenhurst coach Tommy McCandless said.

Sophomore attackmen Caiden Alazraki and Patrick Sarnicola each delivered four goals and three assists, senior Delvani Valdivia won 23 of 27 faceoffs and senior Brandon Ramirez made 13 saves for the Bulldogs (8-3, 6-3).

“I think we should definitely be on people’s radar now,” Sarnicola said.

This could be a very dangerous team in the Suffolk Class A tournament.

“We could do something this year, absolutely,” McCandless said. “That’s what I’m looking forward to this year. I told these guys at the beginning of the year that this could be a special year if they’re willing to buy in. And for the most part, they have bought in.”

The optimism is indeed surging.

“I think that we can go all the way,” Scavone said.

Scavone took a feed from Hunter DeRonde and ended it from in front against Ryan Monahan, who had made 19 saves and also scored.

“This was definitely the best moment of my high school career,” Scavone said.

John Insinga scored his fifth goal, and Connetquot owned a 12-10 lead in the fourth. But Alazraki countered with a goal. Then Sarnicola moved to the middle and tied it from 6 yards out with 3:17 left.

“We’re all very skilled on offense,” Sarnicola said.

Tyler Blandina’s hat trick gave Connetquot (4-6, 3-5) that early 3-0 advantage. Connetquot led 5-3 after one, 8-6 at halftime and 10-9 after three.

“We gave them a lot of opportunities because of our penalties,” coach Brett Jeffares said. “You’re not going to win a game when you’re playing that much man down.”

Jeffares is still hopeful about making the playoffs, saying, “I think we’re trending upward.”
