GENEVA — Manhasset senior captain Kip Zacharia stood on the 30-yard line at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, both arms lifted in the air with the stick in his right arm. A second later, he took his left hand and removed his helmet, roaring in the air as a sea of white Manhasset jerseys covered Boswell Field.
Colin Kelly jumped into his arms. Conor Sheerin sprinted from the offensive third, dodging flying sticks and helmets as he followed the pack to goalie Andrew Limburg.
In a month filled with unbelievable wins and a season filled with unforgettable moments, Manhasset’s boys lacrosse team added one more of each as it defeated Section V’s Victor, 10-7, in the state Class B championship game Sunday.
For four straight years, Long Island has ruled New York’s Class B. On Sunday, Manhasset made it five.

For the first time since 2023 and the first time in Class B since 1995, Manhasset rules the state.

“Our senior class, we’ve been dreaming of this since we were young kids,” Zacharia said. “It’s surreal.”
It’s Manhasset’s first state title since 2023 and its first in Class B since 1995. It’s also Long Island’s fifth consecutive state Class B title.
“It’s euphoric,” first-year Manhasset head coach Nick Armstrong said. “We spent so much time and energy to get here, and now to have it end the way we wanted it to, there’s nothing left to feel. I’m just grateful and appreciative of everything we have.”
Manhasset (18-4) didn’t lead until Tommy Leder’s assist to Marco Petruccelli with 22 seconds left in the second quarter. He added his third goal over a minute into the third quarter to give the Set a 5-3 lead.
“Our defense played unbelievably; we couldn’t score for like 10 minutes straight,” Petruccelli said. “We were sitting there waiting for them, and they gave us as many opportunities as we needed to finish it off.”
Victor (20-3) tied the score at 6 when Gage Hay scored with 5:09 remaining, but Manhasset freshman Will Mondiello responded with 4:11 left. Mikey Beschel won 14 of 21 faceoffs and stepped up in the fourth quarter, winning 7 of 9.
Freshman Tommy Kasselakis (three goals, assist) scored twice over the next three minutes, and freshman Peter Weston added his second goal of the game against a 10-man Victor ride to give Manhasset a 10-6 lead with just 1:02 remaining.

A playoff run to remember and a day to never forget. Three goals today and the last two for the Set.

Limburg, yet another freshman, had nine saves. Sophomore Tommy Geron had two caused turnovers.
“They’re as much of a reason why we’re here as our seniors are,” Armstrong said.
Zacharia matched up with Victor standout Jackson Mead, who had nine goals and four assists in his two previous games, and held him to one goal.
“I don’t think a lot of people would give us credit for it, but that’s old school, blue and orange, Manhasset grit and toughness,” Armstrong said. “This team, it’s got heart and character, and I thought they played their best, most complete game of the season.”
