St. Anthony’s was riding a one-goal edge against Barrington. And then the defending state champion from Rhode Island saw the Friars at their best in the last 6:07 of the first half.
Nick Gentile nice feed to Derek Hamilton — goal.
Augustin Keena perfect long-range shot to the far corner — goal.
Kyle Godoy to Gentile — goal.
St. Anthony’s was on its way to a 5-0 win Sunday in the Firebird Invitational at Kellenberg.
Gentile, Hamilton and Shane Rossiter each had a goal and an assist, helping this soccer team move to 6-0-1. So what’s its potential?
“It’s to be determined,” coach Don Corrao said. “It’s not how you start; it’s how you finish. We’re very pleased with the production that we’re getting both defensively and offensively.
“. . . We’re not only getting a lot of contributions from the starting unit, but we’re getting a lot of contributions from our reserves.”
Matthew O’Shaughnessy (two saves) and Cross Teutonico (one save) combined for the clean sheet.
“Phenomenal,” Eagles coach Don Denham said of the Friars. “ . . . They move the ball well. They move off the ball well. They’re organized. They’re disciplined. They’re healthy. They’re fast. They’re smart. It’s a lot of fun to watch.”
