After 13 years of championships, the Carle Place field hockey team has grown accustomed to winning.
But that doesn’t make the 14th any less special. The top-seeded Frogs defeated No. 3 Cold Spring Harbor, 4-0, to earn its 14th straight Nassau Class C championship on Friday at Seaford High School.
“Every year is just as important as the year before,” coach Elissa Frein said. “Every year feels like something special and it means so much to us. We’ve worked so hard to get to this point and these girls are beyond coachable. I feel like every year it just gets better and better.”
Carle Place (8-6) plays Bayport-Blue Point in the Long Island Class C championship/Southeast Regional Final at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Adelphi. Cold Spring Harbor finished 1-13.
Freshman Madison Pellegrino opened the scoring with a strong push from the right side just over three minutes into the second quarter. Once the Frogs got going, they were tough to stop.
“It’s always super exciting,” Pellegrino said. “This team is so close, so it’s good to know that we have another game together. It’s so great that we get to celebrate and share this. We’ve been working really well and I think we can play really well as a team in the next game.”
Emi Coronel couldn’t be ignored, scoring twice in the win. Her first goal was a diving reverse sweep assisted by Pellegrino in the second quarter and the second was a snipe from the top of the circle in the third. Erin Morgan added the final goal in the fourth quarter.
A four-year varsity starter, Coronel said the championship feeling has yet to get old.
“Knowing how Carle Place field hockey plays really drives us to keep pushing at practice and in games,” Coronel said. “We know how we’re supposed to play, we know the legacy that Carle Place holds and that’s a really motivating factor for us.”
