It wasn’t the prettiest or the flashiest, but South Shore collected its third straight win.

The Vikings held off a late Brooklyn Tech rally to earn a 36-29 victory in PSAL 4A action Friday.

After being tied at halftime, the Vikings used a dominant third quarter to create separation. They scored three touchdowns, including a 47-yard rushing score from Silas Sealy.

“We decided to ground and pound in the third quarter,” South Shore coach Rucard Benjamin said. “We were able to drive down the field using the wildcat formation, and then we eventually went back to our regular offense.”

In the first half, Adrian Antoine took a screen pass 90 yards for a touchdown. South Shore (3-1) led 14-7 and was driving again when Nate Schulman of Brooklyn Tech (1-3) returned an interception 68 yards to tie it at 14 heading into halftime.

The Vikings’ defense made big plays of its own. Christian Dennis had an interception and a forced fumble that led to a South Shore touchdown from Tristan Smith.

“He stopped two big drives,” Benjamin said. “He was able to stop their momentum and create a 14-point swing when we scored off that fumble.”

South Shore led 36-14 in the fourth quarter, but mental mistakes opened the door for a Brooklyn Tech comeback. Quarterback Cole Scanlon connected with receiver Ezra Josse on a 27-yard touchdown, and after recovering the onside kick, the pair hooked up again with less than a minute left to pull within seven.

Brooklyn Tech’s next onside kick was recovered by South Shore, sealing the win.

“Couldn’t be prouder of the fight they gave out there,” Brooklyn Tech coach Brian Pugh said. “The offensive line really stepped up in the second half, which allowed us to pass more, but it was just too little, too late.”

After losing their season opener and working in several new faces, the Vikings now find themselves riding a three-game winning streak.

“Credit to Brooklyn Tech for a hard-fought game,” Benjamin said. “Three straight wins for us is good. We’re a young team that’s building, and we’re going to continue to grow, get smarter, and do the little things better.”
