PSAL football Large School rankings

1. Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn)

Erasmus Hall has won six of the last seven championships in the PSAL’s highest division. Jordan Bishop and Richaurd Dobbin give Erasmus Hall an effective duo on the ground, while four-year varsity linebacker Nasir Brown leads the defense. The Dutchmen dropped two non-league games to New Jersey powers, but until a PSAL team beats them, they remain No. 1.

2. Eagle Academy II (Brooklyn)

Zy’eare Schulters totaled 187 yards and a touchdown and Chase Hyacinth had 13 tackles and two sacks in a 24-20 win over Ohio powerhouse Archbishop Hoban. The senior-heavy Eagles are creating separation from the rest of New York City. They have a Sept. 25 matchup against Erasmus Hall looming.

3. Curtis (Staten Island)

Quadare Gomez, Toriano Lewis, Akai Lewis, Kyle Charles and Xavier Penceal give Curtis one of the most athletic skill groups in the PSAL. The Warriors averaged 38 points in two non-league victories and open league play against South Shore on Sept. 18.

4. Tottenville (Staten Island)

Monmouth commit Kory Brown anchors the offense at running back, while Donato D’Amilio takes over at quarterback. Gavin Ledwith, Nicolas Constantino and Vincent Geller form a talented receiving corps. Nick Acosta leads a defense replacing 10 starters.

5. Lincoln (Brooklyn)

Mekhi Negron is the feature back and Sheepshead Bay transfer Mikey Misla leads the offense at quarterback. Amyr Ivory Jr. leads a defense replacing significant talent from last year’s 4A semifinal team.

6. JFK (Bronx)

Jeremiah Senat rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Amadou Samake added 102 yards and a score in a 36-20 non-league win over Monroe-Woodbury. Edwin Arreola leads a big offensive line that paved the way for Kennedy’s rushing attack.

7. Sheepshead Bay (Brooklyn)

Jayden Browne threw for 195 yards as Sheepshead Bay defeated South Shore, 26-12, after jumping out to a 20-0 lead. Jamar Thomas, Michael Howard and Anthony Milan form one of Brooklyn’s best receiving corps for the defending 3A champions.

8. South Shore (Brooklyn)

Octavius Sullivan and Daeshawn Williams lead another explosive South Shore skill group. With quarterback Charles Barnhart injured, George Adams brings starting experience. The Vikings shut out A. Philip Randolph, 12-0, before falling to Sheepshead Bay.

9. A. Philip Randolph (Manhattan)

A tough non-league stretch saw the Cougars lose to South Shore and defending CHSFL AA-I champion Xavier. Randolph’s offense was without quarterback Emmanuel Opoku against Xavier. He is expected to return for league play alongside Zahaire Jones and Isaac Suazo, forming one of the top trios on both sides of the ball in 3A.

10. James Madison (Brooklyn)

Rayniel Valerio, Travys Leahy and Gavin Pelzer headline a talented junior core for Madison. The Knights opened the season with a statement, defeating 4A opponent New Dorp, 28-0, in one of the weekend’s most surprising results.

PSAL football Small School rankings

1. William C. Bryant (Queens)

Lorenzo Lopez is a versatile receiver who will do a little bit of everything for the defending 2A champions. Houssine Altbouja anchors the line as Bryant looks to repeat after winning its first football championship in school history.

2. Transit Tech (Brooklyn)

Kyle McKay rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-6 win over 4A opponent DeWitt Clinton. Terry McKay had 12 tackles for a defense that didn’t allow an offensive score, while four-year starting quarterback Devin Smith leads an experienced group.

3. Boys and Girls (Brooklyn)

Bryce Moreno leads the ground game after Boys and Girls reached the 2A title game last season. Alex Lopez is expected to take another step in the passing attack, and Na’Feese Clark will be one of 2A’s top two-way players at tight end and defensive end.

4. McKee/Staten Island Tech (Staten Island)

Sophomore quarterback Samuel Tarlo is a player to watch, while Dominick Perez provides leadership on defense. After hosting a 3A playoff game last season, the Seagulls moved to 2A because of enrollment and opened with a 6-0 win over defending 1A champion Petrides.

5. Springfield Gardens (Queens)

Josiah Lawler will be the feature back behind Berdely Elie, one of the top small-school linemen in the city. Gabriel Lemon gives Springfield Gardens another key two-way player as the senior trio looks to lead Springfield to another deep playoff run.

6. Petrides (Staten Island)

Aidan Gonzalez leads the defending 1A champions at receiver and defensive back alongside Jaiden Brown. Petrides will also lean on Kaden Mangual at running back and linebacker after completing a perfect season.

7. East Harlem Pride (Manhattan)

Saraji Page and Emmanuel Hernandez form a dangerous running back duo, while Asher Lipman returns at quarterback after throwing 17 touchdown passes. East Harlem moves to 2A after reaching the 1A title game last season.

8. Mott Haven (Bronx)

Quarterback Rudolf Akumani is one of the top small-school players in the city. Hamza Djaba gives Mott Haven a big, talented running back alongside Akumani after they went unbeaten in the regular season and reached the 1A semifinals.

9. Far Rockaway (Queens)

Quarterback Emmanuel Villa returns with top targets Jeremy Lewis, Courtney Rose and Jonah Lee. Far Rockaway finished one win shy of the playoffs last season and brings back an experienced group of skill players.

10. Campus Magnet (Queens)

Jayden Gonzalez rushed for seven touchdowns last season, while quarterback Zeroun Toney brings experience and accuracy under center. Campus Magnet won three of its final four games to reach the playoffs as the No. 8 seed.
