Things are starting to come together for Holy Trinity.

After winning only one game last season, the Titans dominated on homecoming to earn back-to-back victories and secure their third win of the season.

In just one half of play, Ian Williams rushed for two touchdowns and added an interception on defense to lead Holy Trinity past St. Dominic’s, 41-7, in a CHSFL matchup on Saturday.

“We’re really becoming a team this year,” Williams said. “Last year we struggled with that, but this season is different. We’re going for a championship, and we’re coming together as a team, piling up wins.”

The Holy Trinity defensive line set the tone immediately on the opening drive. Danny Burgin III had a quarterback pressure and a tackle near the line of scrimmage to force a three-and-out.

A group of Titans then blocked a punt, leading to a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Williams for a 6-0 lead with 8:57 left in the first quarter.

“All week at practice we pride ourselves on being fast, physical and aggressive,” Burgin said. “It’s always a game-day scenario, so it’s easier to perform when Saturdays come.”

Holy Trinity’s linemen controlled the line of scrimmage throughout. In the first quarter, they consistently paved the way, resulting in a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Damarien Singh, followed by a 9-yard score from Tyler Jerrick. The Titans ran wild, taking a 20-0 lead after one quarter.

Freshman Jayden Branch, standing 6-3 and 240 pounds, made an impact on both sides of the ball and helped Holy Trinity (3-2) own the trenches for a 26-0 halftime advantage.

“Everyone did their job today,” Branch said. “We were ready all week, and hopefully we keep winning and go for a championship.”

Substitutions rolled in, and the Titans stayed in control the rest of the way.

St. Dominic’s (1-3) is facing one of its toughest schedules in recent memory and embracing the challenge.

“We’re playing up for the first time in 13 years,” St. Dominic coach Ralph Del Giorno said. “But our kids have heart and want to compete. We’re building our program and putting big effort into getting players here.”

Holy Trinity’s mix of youth and experience is meshing well as the Titans face Holy Cross next week, which sits atop the AA-2 division.

“The seniors like Danny and Ian have been great leaders,” Holy Trinity coach Gino Tassone said. “The sophomores are following them, and I’m proud of what they’re doing on the field.”
