The team might look different, but its caliber hasn’t changed a bit.

The Cold Spring Harbor girls lacrosse team graduated 13 seniors last season. When outsiders may have questioned if the program could still reign supreme, its athletes never had a doubt.

The top-seeded Seahawks proved as such in a dominant, 17-3, win over No. 3 Carle Place in the Nassau Class D championship Thursday night at Farmingdale State. The win marks the team’s sixth consecutive county title.

“We had a fresh start, new faces, but always the same goals,” coach Danielle Castellane said. “Everyone always talks about last year’s team, so this group had some big shoes to fill, but they’re young and hungry and wanted this win just as much.”

Cold Spring Harbor (13-5) advances to the Long Island championship, where it will face the winner of No. 1 Bayport-Blue Point/No. 2 Babylon at 5:30 p.m. June 7 at Stony Brook.

Olivia Mulada and Kaitlin Millet led the Seahawks with three goals and an assist each. Although Mulada said she’s thrilled to secure another title, her job isn’t done yet.

“It means a lot to be a part of this and it’s so fun to play with this team, but we have to keep going,” Mulada said. “We have to keep pushing in practice because with the Long Island championship next, our job isn’t finished.”

Millet, a sophomore, stepped into a big role in the midfield this season. With six straight titles and a culture of success, Millet said these wins have become the standard. Now with more of the season left to play, she said it’s her goal to uphold it.

“This has become the expectation for us,” Millet said. “There’s pressure, but the coaches do a great job preparing us for these moments and it’s great to be a part of. We work for each other to keep these wins going.”

On top of six straight county titles, Cold Spring Harbor is also seeking its sixth straight Long Island crown next week. And, with some changes in classification, the Seahawks matchup might look different than usual.

Despite the chatter, Mulada said she and her team are laser focused.

“We play our game regardless,” Mulada said. “We have the same mentality every season and that’s to move forward. We never listen to the outside noise, we never care about the outside noise, we just prove our mentality that we’re still us.”

Madison Reedy scored two goals and Emily Lopes made eight saves for Carle Place, who finished its season 7-9.
