Newsday's top 10 girls lacrosse team rankings

1. St. Anthony’s (1)
St. Anthony’s 51-game win streak snapped on Wednesday in a 10-9 double overtime loss to Darien (CT), but the Friars still remain the strongest program on the Island. Anna Christie is leading the team in points with 21 (14 goals, seven assists) through four games while Sophia Enea is emerging as a player to watch. The freshman midfielder is leading the Friars (3-1) in goals with 16.
2. Sayville (2)
The Golden Flashes remain at No. 2, but they are making a serious case for the top slot. They stand undefeated at 5-0, winning their past three games by at least five points. All three of Sayville’s league wins were by at least seven points. Sophia Buffardi and Dylan McNamara are leading the team with 19 points each.
3. Garden City (4)
The Trojans move up a slot after continuing to prove their dominance with impressive wins over Nassau opponents, and most recently a 12-10 win over IMG Academy (Florida) on Friday. Michaela Molgano is leading the team with 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists). Garden City (6-1) has a challenging week ahead, facing its biggest test yet against Darien (CT) on April 14.
4. Bayport-Blue Point (3)
The Phantoms (2-1) are still looking to bounce back from their 11-10 loss to Eastport-South Manor on March 31. Eva Carvalho and Sara Richardt are leading the team with eight points each.
5. Manhasset (5)
Manhasset (6-0) is one of the strongest teams on the Island right now. The team is coming off two strong wins against North Shore (15-3) and New Canaan (CT) (11-3). Elim Yang is leading Manhasset with 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) and Harper Lambert is leading all scorers with 15 goals.
6. Huntington (6)
Huntington has made a convincing campaign to open the season, including a dominant 13-3 win over Sachem North this week. The Blue Devils stand at 4-0 and have allowed no more than five goals in a game. The sister duo of Valentina and Olivia Puccio are controlling two different facets of the offense, Valentina tallying 16 goals and Olivia dishing 11 assists.
7. West Islip (7)
West Islip stands undefeated at 4-0 after a dominant first two weeks of play, but the Lions have a strong non-league schedule approaching. The team will take on Wilton (CT) on Monday in its toughest matchup so far. Sisters Ava and Jenna Obloj are dominating West Islip’s offense, leading the team with 12 and 10 goals, respectively.
8. Cold Spring Harbor (8)
The Seahawks fell, 18-8, to Manhasset last week, but bounced back with a 21-7 win over Sacred Heart on Tuesday. Olivia Mulada is in the driver’s seat, leading the team by more than 10 points with a total of 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists). Cold Spring Harbor is 4-1 and faces a strong Syosset team on Tuesday.
9. Smithtown West (10)
The Bulls (2-1) move to No. 9 after a 15-8, win over Mount Sinai on Wednesday. They have a challenging week ahead with the highly anticipated East-West game on Monday and a test against Bayport-Blue Point on Friday. Alyssa Lorefice is the team’s strongest facilitator, recording 12 assists in only three games.
10. Northport (unranked)
Northport makes its first appearance in the top 10 after being on the cusp since preseason. The Tigers are undefeated and have done so in dominant fashion. Each of Northport’s wins has been by at least nine points, most recently with a 12-point win (20-8) over Half Hollow Hills on Thursday. Riley Cash is leading Northport (4-0) with 13 goals and 11 assists.
