10 Long Island girls soccer goal scorers to watch for this season

Ava DeMarco, Northport
It’s no surprise that Newsday’s Player of the Year is ranked No. 1. She had one of the best scoring seasons in Suffolk last year. The Monmouth commit placed second in the county with 29 goals, and added 14 assists. She’s quick and light on her feet, which makes her tough to guard, and she can put the ball into the back of the net with precision.
Breanna Mender, Commack
She had her breakout season last year and led the Cougars to a state championship. She had 23 goals and 13 assists. Her decision making and ability to score from distance makes her crucial in Commack’s journey to make another deep postseason run.
Eloise Rubinstein, Port Washington
After suffering a season-ending injury last season, she is looking to return to the field and make an immediate impact for the Vikings. As a sophomore, she was named Newsday’s All-LI first team and is committed to Vanderbilt. She is fast and quick on the ball and can score from distance with either foot. It will be interesting to see her return and what she can do in her final season.
Alexa Cergol, Mount Sinai
The Merrimack commit had 26 goals and 14 assists. The five-year varsity player continues to develop as the engine of the Mustangs' offense. Her vision and IQ are what separates her. She can play in tight spaces and create for herself and others.
Monica Clavijo, North Babylon
Coach Steve Corrado described her as an “offensive dynamic talent.” She has incredible foot skills and can score on either foot. She has 32 goals and 20 assists on varsity, including 18 goals and seven assists last season. The Stony Brook commit has explosive pace and can turn every possession into a scoring opportunity.
Olivia Gordon, Kellenberg
She may have scored only 10 goals, but she controls the midfield exceptionally well. Her ability to see the field and break apart a defense based on her ball-handling skills is stellar. She can start transitions and draw multiple defenders to create scoring opportunities for her teammates. She also contributed seven assists.
Ella Giordano, Hewlett
She had 22 goals and six assists as a freshman. Coach Gilbert Kreiss described her as a “top tier scorer.” She scored the go-ahead goal with 45 seconds left in a play-in game against Jericho to get the Bulldogs in the playoffs.
Brooke Pfeiffer, Longwood
It was a historic year in her sophomore campaign. She scored 18 goals, which tied the school record for single-season goals. Pfeiffer led the Lions to back-to-back postseason runs for the first time in school history. She’s quick and has great shot-making ability. Her speed and athleticism allows her to put pressure on the defense and on the goal.
Joeyce Forero, Valley Stream Central
She earned conference player of the year and conference offensive player of the year honors after recording 21 goals and 16 assists. She reads the field well and can score at will. She has great ball control to squeeze into tight spaces and has a high IQ to create for herself and others.
Avery Minsky, Roslyn
She is a natural scorer. She scored 29 goals, and can finish around the box from anywhere and can shoot from any distance. She has the ability to win one-on-one matchups and break down a defense.
