High school sports roundup: Plainedge's Jaxson Torres throws second straight no-hitter, plus more scores

Jaxson Torres threw his second consecutive no-hitter, striking out 13 batters over seven innings on 106 pitches, to lead Plainedge’s baseball team to a 6-0 road win over Wantagh in Nassau A on Monday. Torres walked three batters and one batter reached on an error. Taylor Nitsch went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Ryan Colon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Plainedge (16-0). Sal Ansaldi struck out four over four innings for Wantagh (11-4-1).
West Hempstead 8, Great Neck South 7: Brenden Felix earned the win with three strikeouts to lead West Hempstead (10-2-1) in Nassau Countywide.
Babylon 11, Mattituck 1: Owen Killeen hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to invoke the mercy rule for Babylon (7-8) in Suffolk VII. John Stricoff went 2-for-4. Tyler Brown struck out six for Mattituck (1-13).
Commack 4, Connetquot 2: Luke Krzemienski went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Robbie Mascia hit a home run for Commack (11-3) in Suffolk II. Sam Kay allowed one run over six innings, striking out six. Chris Steeneck homered for Connetquot (13-2).
West Islip 14, Bellport 0: Brian Brower pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and also hit a home run to lead West Islip (12-3) in Suffolk IV. Will Delanoy hit a home run and drove in four runs. Bellport is 1-17.
SATURDAY’S GAME
St. Anthony’s 9, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 1: Dominick Fazio and Jackson Barnett combined to pitch a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead St. Anthony’s (12-6) in the fourth annual Corey’s Promise Game, which honors the late Corey Phelan and his family. Dylan Reo went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (10-7).
SOFTBALL
Kellenberg 7, Holy Trinity 1: Molly Silecchia went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored and struck out six in three innings of relief for Kellenberg (11-8) in the NSCHSAA. Makenzie McDonald went 3-for-3 with a double, and Lauren O’Brien and Gabby Aucone each hit a home run. Tia DePalo struck out 11 for Holy Trinity (7-6).
Glen Cove 3, Calhoun 1: Brooke Simmons struck out 15 and allowed two hits over seven innings for Glen Cove (4-11) in Nassau I. Simmons and Mia Lupinski each had two hits and an RBI. Siena Scagliola had an RBI groundout. Kaitlyn DiPaola scored a run for Calhoun (9-10).
BOYS LACROSSE
Uniondale 6, Valley Stream District 2: Gio Carrillo went 11-for-11 on faceoffs for Uniondale (4-7-1) in Nassau IV. Cristian Ganuza made 13 saves. Andy Sorto scored three fourth-quarter goals. Zeyvren Issac and Anthony Vitullo both scored for Valley Stream District (0-8).
GIRLS LACROSSE
West Islip 11, Bayport-Blue Point 10: Caitlin Vail had three goals and two assists to lead West Islip (12-1) in Suffolk II. Jenna Obloj had a goal and five assists. Alyssa Corso made 10 saves. Sara Richardt had three goals and an assist for Bayport-Blue Point (6-6).
Babylon 19, Half Hollow Hills 8: Peyton Logue-Boyd had seven goals, one assist and nine draw controls to lead Babylon (8-4) in non-league. Lily Krollage added three goals and four assists. Addie Corry had four goals and two assists for Half Hollow Hills (6-6).
GIRLS BADMINTON
Port Washington 4, Garden City 3: At second doubles, Siena McGuffin and Abby Randazzo defeated Jessica Duckfield and Alexis Koenig in three sets to clinch a Nassau II win for Port Washington (13-0). Garden City, which won all three singles matches, fell to 9-3.
East Rockaway 5, West Hempstead 2: Felicity Caracciolo defeated Jaclyn Luong, 21-13, 14-21, 21-17, at third singles for East Rockaway (9-4) in Nassau V. Caracciolo is 11-0.
