(Last week’s ranking in parentheses)
1. Oceanside (1)
The Sailors (21-3) continue to fire on all cylinders. They grabbed 7-0 and 9-2 victories to sweep the Class AAA semifinal against Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK and set up a rematch with Massapequa in the county final. Caroline Ferchland tossed 9 1/3 scoreless innings in the series and has now allowed just one run in her last 51 ⅓ innings.
2. St. Anthony’s (2)
The Friars (21-5) swept their NSCHSAA semifinal series with Sacred Heart. St. Anthony’s will look for a ninth straight league title in its championship series with Kellenberg beginning on Tuesday. The Firebirds defeated the Friars, 5-2, on May 8.
3. Sachem North (3)
Danielle Brennan was lights out in wins over Northport and Sachem East in the first week of the Suffolk playoffs. North (20-2) suffered its last loss to Commack, 2-1, on April 27. The winner of Monday’s rematch advances to the Suffolk AAA final.
4. Wantagh (4)
The program won a 4-1 matchup with Mineola and exploded for 14 runs in Game 2 to win the series. Wantagh (15-5) has shown it is capable of putting runs on the board or winning tight games. Runs will be at a premium with Lucy Olore and Seaford’s Rylie Betz taking the circle in the county final.
5. Massapequa (5)
Maeve Schiereck and Sienna Erker each hit two home runs in a deciding Game 3 against Syosset to move onto the county final. Massapequa (17-8) scored 28 runs in the series and will look to carry that momentum against Oceanside.
6. Miller Place (6)
Delaney Schleider, Laney Vomero and Tiffany Clasen powered the Panthers to a 4-2 win over Rocky Point on Saturday. Miller Place (17-3) ended the regular season with a 13-inning win over Kings Park for the League V title. Monday’s rematch will determine one of the Suffolk A finalists.
7. Commack (7)
After a win over Longwood, the Cougars (19-3) exploded for a seven-run fifth inning in an 8-3 win over Ward Melville. Commack enters Monday’s heavyweight bout with Sachem North on a 13-game winning streak.
8. Kellenberg (8)
Molly Silecchia and Hailey McGreevy allowed five total hits as Kellenberg swept Holy Trinity with two shutouts in their NSCHSAA semifinal series. The Firebirds (17-8) proved they could beat St. Anthony’s earlier in the month. Can they do it when it matters most?
9. Seaford (9)
The Vikings earned a sweep of Plainedge allowing just three runs in the two games. Seaford (13-8) has had three of its four highest run totals during the playoffs and still boasts the fewest runs allowed (45) in the county.
10. East Islip (10)
Looking to repeat her dominant playoff run from last year, Cate Ropiak hurled a four-hit shutout for East Islip (14-5) in a 4-0 win over Hauppauge. East Islip’s last loss to a Suffolk opponent came to Westhampton on April 10. Katie Burke and Addison Celi helped the Hurricanes to a 20-3 win over East Hampton. Who will win Tuesday’s rematch with a trip to the Suffolk AA final on the line?
On the cusp: Calhoun, Kings Park, MacArthur, Westhampton, Northport.
