With Bayport-Blue Point holding game point in the third set, the Phantoms seemed on their way to a second straight county title.

Shoreham-Wading River countered with six consecutive points and suddenly the Wildcats had the momentum, while the Phantoms were in danger of falling behind.

Top-seeded Bayport-Blue Point showed its resolve as Shayleigh Robson’s kill cashed in on the Phantoms' ninth set point. That stretch propelled Bayport-Blue Point to a, 25-16, 20-25, 28-26, 25-18, victory over No. 2 Shoreham-Wading River in the Suffolk Class B final at Hauppauge on Tuesday night.

“Sometimes we get in our heads. We need to lift each other,” Robson said. When we’re out there having fun, we play better. We get a smile on our face and that carries through the whole team.”

The Phantoms raced out to a 15-9 lead in the third set after Amelia Garafola’s kill. Lexi Hager’s back-to-back aces gave Bayport-Blue Point its first set point of the third.

Shoreham-Wading River scored the next six, tying it after Raven Fernandes’ ace and Maria Lazaris’ kill. The two teams exchanged errors on the next five points before Robson’s kill ended the set and gave the Phantoms a 2-1 lead.

“You’ve got to have a goldfish memory,” senior setter Kelsey Morrison said. “The next point is all that matters. Every point is one and done.”

The Phantoms used an 8-1 run to take a 15-9 lead in the fourth after Garafola’s kill. They held their biggest lead of the match after Gabrielle Lacalamita’s kill made it 22-12.

“I think we may have taken our foot off the gas and got a little complacent,” Bayport-Blue Point first-year coach Angelina Scichilone said. “They had to want it more than the girls on the other side. They had to be athletes and fight for it. They did that and pulled out the win.”

The Phantoms took a 13-5 lead after back-to-back aces by Olivia Colombo in the first set. Robson had four kills and an ace in the first.

“We’re grateful for our new coach and how connected we already feel,” Morrison said. “We’ve certainly leaned on each other, but it helps to have a strong leader.”

Fernades’ ace gave Shoreham-Wading River (6-6) a 17-11 lead and Lazaris’ kill allowed it to take the first set.

Bayport-Blue Point (13-2) will face the Nassau Class B champion in the Long Island championship on Nov. 11 at Nassau Community College.

“Last year things ended rough, losing in the LIC,” Robson said. “So that provided some motivation for us this year.”
