Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out for the season with a lower-body injury, and presumptive backup Joonas Korpisalo, who hasn’t played this season, is also out, with a lower-body injury of his own, for another four weeks.

Twenty-four-year-old Dylan Garand, who had been ticketed to start the season in AHL Hartford, is the new No. 1, and journeyman Spencer Martin, who was signed from the KHL in midseason last year, is his backup.

Garand has played just five NHL games, and Martin has a career NHL save percentage of .881. Can this duo keep the Rangers afloat until Korpisalo comes back, or do the Rangers need to bring someone in?

Here’s a look at a few options if they opt for the latter:

James Reimer

An unsigned, 38-year-old free agent who’s played 16 seasons for eight teams, he went 7-4-2, with a 2.42 GAA and .886 save percentage in 14 games for Ottawa last season.

Connor Ingram

Announced his retirement from the NHL, at age 29, last month. He’s been public with his struggles with mental health, stemming from undiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). He won the Masterton Trophy, for perseverance and dedication to hockey, in 2024. He played last season for Edmonton, and went 16-10-2, with a 2.60 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Jonathan Quick

Retired after last season at age 40 and took a job in the Rangers’ front office as director of goaltending development, so he’s here already. Grew up in Connecticut a Ranger fan, played his last three seasons with the Blueshirts. Would seem an easy temporary solution.
