What WFAN and ESPN Radio hosts are saying about the Mets' 11-game losing streak

They have the pulse of the fans, so what did our local sports talk radio show hosts have to say on the air Monday about the Mets’ 11-game losing streak and whether manager Carlos Mendoza should be fired with a nine-game homestand starting on Tuesday?
Craig Carton, WFAN
“I think the Met fan base is ready to have an old-school – it doesn’t happen that often – revolt against the owner, against the franchise . . . If you’re a die-hard Met fan, you have every reason to say -- I can’t say it on the radio.”
Chris McMonigle, WFAN
“With the manager’s job up in the air, he makes one of the most idiotic decisions that you could possibly fathom. Like it makes literally no sense to not walk Nico Hoerner [in the ninth inning Sunday]. It makes literally no sense. I just assumed it was going to happen right when he started pitching to him. I’m trying to rack my brain on why he would make this decision, and I still can’t . . . I still think I would give him this homestand.”
Evan Roberts, WFAN
“They’ve got to fire the manager. Sorry. I’m a bad guy. I’m a jerk. I’m calling for someone’s job . . . You can’t fire the GM. You can’t release every player. So I’m sorry. That’s what they need to do . . . It’s not all his fault. But as you sit here and the Titanic is sinking, fire is everywhere, you have to do something.”
Michael Kay, ESPN NEW York
“At this point, I don’t think Mendoza’s job is in jeopardy. First of all, I don’t think it’s his fault. Mendoza doesn’t not hit with runners in scoring position. It’s the players that don’t hit . . . These [next] nine games are going to decide whether or not Carlos Mendoza keeps his job because if you do poorly in these nine games, you’re going to have to throw the fans something, and the thing you’re going to throw the fans is Carlos Mendoza. Again, I don’t think he’s the issue. I think the composition of the team might be the issue, and not having [Juan] Soto might be the issue. But those are nine games where things have to start going right.”
Gregg Giannotti, WFAN
“Carlos Mendoza is getting all the support in the world from his players. I don’t know if they’ll do anything . . . But, I mean, can you really put the blame on him? All the blame on him? Absolutely not. But I don’t know what else to do to get yourself out of this.”
Boomer Esiason, WFAN
“It has to be rock bottom. Maybe they’re going to wait to get Soto back and maybe he starts this week against the Twins. And if he does and this continues, then the manager is going to lose his job. And maybe he’s the guy that shouldn’t lose his job. Maybe the general manager and president of baseball operations [David Stearns] should lose his job.”
Rick DiPietro, ESPN New York
“This is not the start that everyone expected. At all. And this is, for David Stearns, this is happening fast . . . It’s bad. Mendoza’s going to get fired. It’s just a matter of when.”
Dave Rothenberg, ESPN New York
“The best part of the game is watching Steve Gelbs review the hot dogs!”
